racoon vpn dies randomly while connected to Cisco VPN

Built in VPN on Snow Leopard and Lion (both are installed on my MBP) die randomly throughout the day while connected to Cisco corporate VPN. I can keep the VPN connection open for days without disconnect on Windows 7 via Bootcamp on the same MBP.
