Unable to set/reset UIScreen brightness in applicationWillResignActive

Summary: When I set the screen brightness in my app, I'd like to reset the screen brightness to the value it was when my app started.  Currently, this is not working.

Steps to Reproduce:
Create a simple app that sets the screen brightness.  Use the brightness property of UIScreen to:
a) save the current brightness value when the app starts
b) set the UIScreen brightness to some new value (like 0.0, so it's obvious)

 In applicationWillResignActive, set the screen brightness back to the value you stored in a) above.

Launch the app, let it change the brightness of the screen, then press the Home button.

Expected Results:
I would expect the brightness to be restored to the original value stored in a)

Actual Results:
Brightness is not restored
