Preview keeps file open after closing document window

When I open PDF files in Preview and want to move those (after viewing and after closing the Preview window) to a different volume, I get a Finder error that the file is still open. "lsof" reveals that Preview has the file still open. Preview should close any file immediately whose document window is closed by the user.
