Gesture in UISplitViewController not working as expected

Summary:
Gesture in UISplitViewController (iOS 5.1) doesn't work, if there's no delegate and it doesn't implement
- (void)splitViewController:(UISplitViewController *)splitController willHideViewController:(UIViewController *)viewController withBarButtonItem:(UIBarButtonItem *)barButtonItem forPopoverController:(UIPopoverController *)popoverController

Steps to Reproduce:
1. create UISplitViewController, fill it with view controllers
2. run

Expected Results:
opening/closing master view with a gesture

Actual Results:
gesture doesn't work

Regression:
It works after assigning a delegate AND implementing 
- (void)splitViewController:(UISplitViewController *)splitController willHideViewController:(UIViewController *)viewController withBarButtonItem:(UIBarButtonItem *)barButtonItem forPopoverController:(UIPopoverController *)popoverController
