Summary:
In the developer documentation for CALayer, the backgroundFilters, compositingFilter, and filters methods all include "While the CALayer class exposes this property, Core Image is not available in iOS. Currently the filters available for this property are undefined." listed under "Special Considerations". However, as of iOS 5, CoreImage is available on iOS and the documentation can be reasonably understood to therefore indicate these three methods are in fact available for use on iOS.
