Summary: I have a Pobox Mailstore account, which uses standard IMAP and SMTP for mail. Since upgrading to Mavericks, when I send an email, Mail regularly hangs until the mail sends. When I hear the send sound, I know it will work again. But until then, it feels like there’s a Mac OS Classic modal dialog open somewhere and Mail will respond to no interactions at all. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Send mail via SMTP (may require getting a Pobox account to reproduce) 2. Try to browse IMAP folders or move messages Expected Results: In previous versions of Mail, I have always been able to continue working with my messages after hitting Send, without having to wait for the SMTP send process to finish. Actual Results: Mail hangs until the message finishes sending. Version: Mail Version 7.0 (1822), Mac OS X 10.9 Build 13A603 Notes: Configuration: Seems to happen with my Pobox/SMTP/IMAP account, but not with Gmail. Attachments:

Okay, I think I got it. I noticed it hanging while sending, switched over to terminal and ran sysdiagnose. I heard the "mail sent" noise while "Running fs_usage, spindump, vm_stat, and top" was displayed. Hopefully it caught some useful information. Unless you tell me that you see the problem in this file, I will do it again whenever I notice it, and hopefully catch it at different stages. Engineering has requested the following:
Can we get a sysdiagnose (sudo sysdiagnose -f ~/Desktop Mail) taken during the spin?
More on how to run sysdiagnose:
1) Launch Terminal.app (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app) 2) Enter the command text below followed by the Return key on the Terminal command line:
sudo sysdiagnose
3) Enter your admin password when prompted and wait for the all of the sysdiagnose processes to finish. 4) When sysdiagnose has completed, a Finder window will appear, showing the new sysdiagnose file in /var/tmp or /private/var/tmp. Attach that file to your bug report.
Note: You can specify an optional argument for the process name like "Mail" without the quotes for the specific process you want to capture. When there is no argument, the default is to capture all running process info. Here's an example of the command with an optional argument Mail:
sudo sysdiagnose Mail
An alternative approach uses a key command rather than using the terminal window:
1) Press Shift-Control-Option-Command-Period when the issue reproduces 2) Wait for approximately 5 minutes (you can release the keys; you don't need to hold them down for 5 minutes).
3) When sysdiagnose has completed, a Finder window will appear, showing the new sysdiagnose file in /var/tmp or /private/var/tmp. Attach that file to your bug report.
