Summary:
When asking QuickTime Player for a list of video recording devices, I get an AppleEvent handler error -10000
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open AppleScript Editor.
2. Enter the following script:
tell application "QuickTime Player"
video recording devices
end tell
3. Run the script.
4. Get output something like this:
tell application "QuickTime Player"
get every video recording device
--> {screen compression preset "FaceTime HD Camera"}
end tell
Result:
{screen compression preset "FaceTime HD Camera" of application "QuickTime Player"}
5. Plug in a device running iOS 8.0 (12A4345d). I used my iPad mini with Retina Display.
6. Re-run the AppleScript.
Expected Results:
In addition to the FaceTime HD Camera, I will see my iPad in the list of available devices, like I do in QuickTime Player when I make a new video recording from the File menu.
Actual Results:
I get this alert in AppleScript:
Script Error
QuickTime Player got an error: AppleEvent handler failed.
And the AppleScript console prints this out (I have it set to print Events, Replies, and Log Message):
tell application "QuickTime Player"
get every video recording device
--> error number -10000
Result:
error "QuickTime Player got an error: AppleEvent handler failed." number -10000
