Cannot copy/paste in Messages panel launched from Spotlight

Summary:
When launching the iMessage panel from within a Spotlight result, the system pasteboard commands don't seem to function.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Activate Spotlight (⌘-Space)
2. Type the name of a contact
3. Click the small messages bubble next to contact's email address
4. Attempt to paste (⌘V) some text into the message body


Expected Results:
Text is pasted.

Actual Results:
Nothing happens.
