NSItemProvider throws NSXPCConnection exception in iOS 8 Share Extension

Calling loadItemForTypeIdentifier:options:completionHandler: on an instance of NSItemProvider in which the attachment is an image will throw an NSXPCConnection exception (see "Console.png") and silently fail without calling the completionHandler. Specifically, I've found that images created with UIImage's class method, animatedImageWithImages:duration: cause NSItemProvider to throw this exception without fail.
