Mail hangs when attempting to quit immediately after deleting a message

Summary:
When I delete a message and immediately decide that I'm done with email and hit ⌘Q, Mail usually breaks. It displays an error message and then stays hung in a bad state where it simply will not quit. (I need to use Force Quit).

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Delete a message from the list
2. Hit ⌘Q immediately

Expected Results:
Mail quits

Actual Results:
Mail shows an error code and does not quit.

I use Gmail, if that matters.
