Many Apple apps use this capability, including Weather, Safari, Newsstand, Reminders, iBooks, and Videos. 
Before iOS 7.0.3, there were two private APIs to enable this feature: -[UIApplication _setIsOpaque] and the UIApplicationIsOpaque PLIST key.
