UITableView configured with no backgroundColor has white background

Configuring a UITableView to have a clear backgroundColor then presenting it on screen does not honor that.

Steps to Reproduce:
1) Create UITableView in code
2) set backgroundColor to clearColor
3) show on screen

Expected Results:
Table view has clear backgroundColor

Actual Results:
Table view has white backgoundColor
