Pressing ESC while ESC is unbound will insert 0x12 char into editor

When ESC is unbound (likely to happen if you've used and then removed XVim at some point), pressing ESC will insert 0x12 ASCII char into your editor window. There is no visual indication this character is in your text file and will cause issues such as build failures.
