Summary: In previous versions of Xcode (I believe it was Xcode 5) the list of provisioning profiles were in alphabetical order. Working for a company that has many accounts we have literally hundreds of provisioning profiles and finding them in date creation order is a nightmare. Please revert the list of provisioning profiles to alphabetical. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to Xcode Build Settings on an app 2. Select Provisioning profile drop down menu 3. Observe list that is 300 items long and not in alphabetical order Expected Results: List should be alphabetical Actual Results: List is not alphabetical but instead ordered by creation date

Thanks for pointing this out. I had totally missed that the list was separate when switching to non-automatic. This meets my need, thanks! This issue has been verified as resolved and can be closed.

If you use “Customized Provisioning” (non-automatic) you should be able to manipulate profile selection in the Project Editor. The list of profiles are sorted here alphabetically in a Eligible and Ineligible bucket. Is this malfunctioning or not meeting your need?

Xcode 8's automatic management of code signing is good but it does not meet our requirements. We regularly need to switch between enterprise and development certificates in our workflows as well as having some projects where we have to regularly switch between 10-20 profiles. We endeavour to use the automatic management where we can but it isn't always appropriate for us right now.
Changing the list to be in alphabetical order would not have a negative impact on the automatic signing of Xcode 8 as far as I can see.
