xcodebuild test fails to launch iOS Simulator

Originator:jp
Number:rdar://28232091 Date Originated:Sept 9 2016
Status:Open Resolved:
Product:Xcode Product Version:7.3.1 to 8.0 GM
Classification: Reproducible:Sometimes

Summary:
xcodebuild occasionally fails to launch the iOS Simulator. See attached logs for details.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Xcode 8 GM (8A218a) on Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.6
2. Check out Realm at this commit: https://github.com/realm/realm-cocoa/tree/742e530446e7c3b74abdf902b9109ab8f1086753
3. Run the following from Terminal:

```
$ swift_version=3.0 target=verify-ios-swift configuration=Release ./build.sh ci-pr
```

Expected Results:
Unit tests run.

Actual Results:
Unit tests don't run, hanging when attempting to launch the Simulator.

Version:
Xcode 8 GM (8A218a) on Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.6

Notes:

Configuration:
If the steps to reproduce don't trigger the problem on the first try, reset the simulators, clear Derived Data and try again.

It's possible that running these steps with multiple versions of Xcode installed (e.g. 7.3.1 and 8.0) makes the problem surface more frequently.

I see, I had misread your initial response. I thought it said "Missing Xcode versions", not "Mixing". Seeing as how my exact use case here is running multiple Xcodes side by side on a single Mac, I'll take it from your replies that this isn't something that's supported.

Please attempt a repro with only Xcode 8 installed (no other versions installed). If it does repro, please attach the entire contents of ~/Library/Logs/CoreSimulator to the bug report.

Please provide your response or results by updating your bug report. If uploading files, please compress first.

Thanks for the reply! This is running in a fresh OS X environment (newly installed machine), so rebooting the Mac will not help here.

Are there any other steps I could take to provide you with sufficient information? Did you attempt to follow the steps I shared? If they are in any way unclear, I'm happy to clarify if needed.

Engineering has the following feedback for you:

Mixing Xcode versions is a great way to lock up the simulator. Please reboot the Mac and then try to reproduce the issue. If it does reproduce, please attach the contents of ~/Library/Logs/CoreSimulator to the bug. Thank you.

Please provide your response or results by updating your bug report and compress any bundled files (e.g. nested folders) prior to uploading.
